Easter Treats for The Knit Cafe

Just in time for this hippity hoppity weekend we have a new selection of yarns. Come on over and have your own Easter Egg Hunt. You can find such treats like this Rowan Pure Wool Superwash. It is practically egg shaped. I love this shelf full of Easter inspired colours but we have lots more colours besides.

If you follow us on Twitter you may already know we received our first box from Madelinetosh. We have quite a large order coming in, so we expect the rest to follow over the next week, but for now we have a gorgeous selection of Vintage which is Madelinetosh worsted weight. All hand dyed on merino wool and Superwash to boot, this is some knitters most coveted yarn.

The Madelinetosh is pictured on the shelves to the right. On the left we have fluffy cottons from Blue Sky Alpaca. This is one of our favourite cottons, so thick and so soft, it knits up light and cushy. We used it to make our sample of The Knit Cafe’s Baby Blanket project – the one we make in our baby blanket class. Still a few spots left in that class which is this Monday night!

Knit Classes for Everyone!

We’re really pleased to be able to teach crafty techniques to wonderfully talented groups of knitters and would-be knitters. It’s terrific to pass on skills that you know will help a person achieve their goals and help them while away the hours.

No matter your past experience with knitting, one of these imminent classes   might be the one to help you realize your next goal.

baby blanket class

New Knitters try the Baby Blanket Workshop.

In just one class you will learn basic pattern reading and how to recognize a knit from a purl to create textured wonders like this baby blanket. You only need to know how to knit to take this class, we will teach you the purl if you are not acquainted.

Monday March 2, 6:30-9pm, $32, materials not included
Register online HERE

slipper class

Knitters who know knits and purls both try the Slipper Class

This class teaches how to knit in rounds so that you can create three dimensional projects.  This is a must have skill for any knitter who wants to get beyond knitting scarves and washcloths. Cozy slippers are fast to make and make great gifts too!

Wednesday March 4, 11, 7-9pm, $54, materials not included

custom fit socks class

Seasoned Knitters and Sock Knitters try the Custom Fit Sock Class

Learn how to make socks to suit your tootsies, then make more socks for friends and family with any size feet.  Any old yarn can be promoted for the occasion regardless of gauge. If that is not enough of an incentive to take this sock class then – are you tempted by a toe-up pattern?  Knitting socks from the toe up means running out of yarn before you finish your toes is just a bad memory. If you are a sockaholic this is a class for you!

Sunday March 1, 8, 15, 12:30-2:30, $76, materials not included

Sweet on Sweet Georgia Yarn

It is so great to look out the window and see green.  Not just any green but that distinct hue of greenery that is ubiquitous in the spring; that vivid, happy, living, breathing, bright, green. Sigh!
This skein of yarn from Sweet Georgia harnesses the power of green and mixes it with this punchy pink to make the springiest yarn you ever did see.  It’s called Snapdragon.

sweet georgia

This west-coast, Canadian, hand dyer seems particularly adept at preserving the essence of Spring-Time in their sunny colour-ways. We have a pretty batch of their DK weight superwash merino, which has a springy twist that is a match for the colour. A generous 234 metre skein is $24. Some are multicolour dye jobs like Snapdragon ↑

and Honey Fig

Some are effervescent tonal colours that can’t wait to become jumpers.  They tell me so from the shelves.

If you’re not up for knitting a full-sized sweater, try a baby size.  After all this is superwash yarn, and spring does bring a shower of baby shower invitations in its wake. I am also moved to recommend this yarn for a baby blanket project like the one we knit up in our Beginner Knitting Baby Blanket Class (Monday June 16, 6:30-9pm), or our Beginner Crochet Blanket Class (Wednesday June 11, 18, 25, 7-9pm).
