New Shawl Pattern from The Knit Cafe

We have just published our latest pattern to Ravelry. It is called “There’s No Place Like Home”. You can find it HERE

there's no place like home

This project was designed for The Knit Cafe’s Yarn Club and was knit in a custom made colour just for yarn club members. The colour is dyed by the fabulous hand dyer Lichen and Lace. The colour is called “Emerald City” so of course we had to name this shawlette after Dorothy’s most famous line in the Wizzard of Oz, “there’s no place like home”.

The shawl has an interesting construction. First,  it is knit on the bias in an easy open lace stitch. The border stitches are picked up and shaped with short rows into wedges so the corners of the shawl stay pointed and easy to tie.  The whole thing is finished with a flourish in the form of a picot bind off. You can make the whole shawl in one skein of fingering weight if your skein holds 475 yards. If you have less yarn you can make a version without the border which is a lovely kerchief size.

What a delight! – It’s Merino Light!

Yes – I’m rhyming now… but such a feast for the eyes deserves an equally snappy introduction.

Madelinetosh Merino Light is a super-soft one-ply yarn spun to fingering weight. It comes in wonderful Madelinetosh colours and we have a very appealing pallet on the shelves.

This shelf is reserved for colours with gusto. As though you’ve walked into a silk, sari shop in Little India, these jewel tone colours radiate so much amazing warmth and depth around them.

Either shelf, any colour, you can’t go wrong!
Merino Light is perfect for light weight garments and shawls and scarves too.  We used it for our Soho Scarf project and the Big Wrap too.

…and the award for the most inventive yarn-colour-names go to…

Indigo Dragonfly of course!
This yarn is beautiful enough! Browsing the colour names is just the added bonus.  Ponder names like “Slutty Thursday Afternoon Things” – it’s pink!

Since we have an excellent selection of unique skeins I will not be able to show you all the lovelies in this post, but here are some highlights.  ↓

Imagine matching the colour names to the feet in your life and you will have the perfect gift for some lucky someones.  This is sock weight yarn with a bit of nylon mixed into the merino for strength.  In addition it would make beautiful scarves, shawls and other light weight goods. This 356 metre skein is $26.
