Knit a Halloween Costume – It’s a Class!

Pumpkin Time Already!
With the first day of Fall behind us it is clearly time to start thinking about Halloween.

halloween costume

We are hosting a Knit-A-Halloween-Costume Class.  We will focus on faces and tails to make cozy critter costumes. Above you can see our foxy version.

bee hatraccoon

These ↑ are some of Iwona’s costumes for Charlie that she has made in years past. We are substituting knitting for crochet where necessary and preparing patterns just for this class so students can knit bumble bee costumes or raccoon costumes. There will also be a kitty cat version, a bunny and a bear costume too.  There are two dates for this class, both will give you lot’s of time to finish before Halloween

Planning a Spring Scarfette

lichen and lace

Have you seen this?

lichen and lace

how about this?

lichen and lace

this?

If not, you might want to come by The Knit Café this weekend to get a look. Our order from Lichen and Lace is selling fast, and no wonder with beauties like these ones.
If you are drooling on your keyboard and wondering what you might knit with this luscious yarn then check out The Knit Café’s 504 King West pattern. It’s free and so fun to knit and it will give you lots of opportunities to play with all the colour possibilities available in our Lichen and Lace pallet.

504 King West

I couldn’t resist putting together some combos myself. For this project you will need two main colours and three accent colours. In these pics the Lichen and Lace is paired with Koigi Mini Skeins. Each Mini is just enough yarn to make one stripe on the selvedge edge of the 504 King West.

Lichen and Lace’s Silver Fox and Soot
These two are paired with a few Madelinetosh Unicorn Tails in Edison Bulb, and Rainwater, the other skeinette is by Koigu.

If you need some support while knitting your 504 King West pattern you are in luck.  The Knit Cafe’s has just announced a new class offered over the spring and summer called “Asymmetric Summer Scarf Workshop” where you can get lots of guidance and tips while you knit your scarfette.

Make Your First Sweater Here!

Creating your first hand made sweater can be intimidating.  What pattern do you choose, and is that actually English that it’s written in? My first sweater adventure required a lot of back-up support, someone to help me through the unfamiliar parts but also someone to bring on the encouragement.

If you too would like a helping hand while you make your first sweater, then come and get it!  We are hosting our Sweater Class this Wed July 2, 9, 16, 23.

DSCN0006

This class features a unisex sweater pattern with a basic flattering shape.  It is knit from the top down so that it can be easily adjusted for length, and sleeve length. In addition you can make any size.  A baby sweater is a tempting choice for a first sweater; smaller, therefore a quicker knit and cute too.  Selfish knitting is also a temptation and if you succumb you can make one in your own size.  If you need a pullover than you can make one, or if you prefer a cardigan you can make one of those too, but the options do not end there.

DSCN0008

One of the best things about creating your own garments is making all the choices about the colours, and getting crafty with the style details.  Both of the examples pictured incorporate colour treats here and there that define the sweater and make them really special. They were more fun to knit that way too.

To join us at this Sweater Class give us a ring at 416 533 5648

The dates are Wed July 2, 9, 16, 23, from 7-9pm
The class fee is $100, materials not included.

Knit Day(s)!

Knit in Public Day(s) are coming up!
I say day(s) as those who officiate this “day” have it scheduled from June 8-16.  Whatever the day, all over the world knitters are encouraged to congregate en mass and show off to the greater public.
This year I thought some of you might want to join the demonstration.
We will be congregating in Trinity Bellwood’s Park on Saturday June 8th from 12-2pm for a knitalong!  Bring your crocheted blankets to sit on and bring needles and yarn for stitching.  The bigger the group the better!
This is a SHINE ONLY plan.  The rainy day plan will be to come to the Knit Cafe where we regularly “knit in public”.  We will sheltered here behind our safety glass, under the pretty tin ceiling, insulated by the yarn.
