All I can say is – Wow!

Oh My Dear you should get here right now!

riverside studio super bulky

I just opened a great, big box which contained this great, big, beautiful yarn. My sources say that this may be a yarn of a limited edition. Riverside Studio has dyed us these super bulky and super-duper, soft skeins of 100% merino, superwash wool. Wow! Kathryn, at Riverside says she may not be able to dye this Super Bulky wool again so get ’em while you can!

Thanks to Thanksgiving, I have not posted in a while. Apologies,  I have been remiss in my duty to keep you up to date on the comings and goings. One of which was the arrival of Riverside Studio’s Worsted 1ply. It is so soft and dreamy that a lot of it has left the shop already, but remarkably we still have…

and this too!

Also today we received some NORO!
Noro yarns make us so happy with their happy, happy, rainbow ways.  To say that it is a self-striping yarn really undersells the wonderful effect of Noro’s blending and twisting colour patterns.

Along with Kureopatora, which is the worsted weight, merino blend we had last year, we received a brand new offering from Noro called Kureyon Air.
In short it is- BIG FAT NORO!

noro kureyon air

It weighs in as a bulky weight, calling for a 9mm needle and still has all the gorgeous striping colours Noro is known for. It is softer then it’s smaller cousin Kureyon and I encourage you to come in and give it a squeeze.

If you are inspired by the pretty Noro but don’t know what to make, we have many suggestions including this classic striped scarf projects which uses two balls (two distinct colour-ways) striped. So basically it is striping yarn that is knit in stripes.

If you are new to the land of knit, and need some help in making such a scarf- we have a class for that.

Chunkerific Yarn Update

Some knitters like to maximize their knitting time with fat yarns. To them, I say look no further then Brown Sheep Burly Spun. We adore this yarn for how speedy it is to knit but also how glamorously chunky it looks in simple stitches like garter stitch.
We just got our first shipment (of many no doubt) of this indispensable yarn.

This oatmeal colour is the one we picked to knit our sample of The Mondo Cowl.

We have many other colours of Brown Sheep Burly Spun in the shop to admire, and there are a few available in our webshop too, so even if you live far away you can order some of this yarn to try.

New fat yarn, new skinny yarn!

Shelves are full of sweet offerings this month.  We have reinforcement from Cascade and Berroco and Brown Sheep too, but I have a few gems I’d like to crow about in particular.

malabrigo rasta

Malabrigo Rasta
This is SUPER BULKY yarn! As temperatures plummet and we need garments that will keep us super warm -we call on super bulky.  Malabrigo is known  for it’s wonderful hand dyed colours and super soft yarns.  Rasta is a soft spun merino that is a dream to work with and has a wonderful sheen. Our pre Christmas order came and went with reindeer like speed, so come give this batch a squeeze soon.
The stunning chartreuse pictured above is called Lettuce.  Rasta has 90 yards on a skein, knits 2-2.5 sts/inch and costs $30.

madalinetosh prairie

That’s the fat news, now for the skinny!

Madelinetosh Prairie
This is a laceweight yarn, which means it is fine as fine can be.  Much satisfaction can be achieved knitting with such soft, gossamer strands.  Think wonderful lace knits, or loosely knit garments like the popular Featherweight or Wispy Cardi pattern.  Combine it with other yarns to add colour contrast to your knits like the Knit Cafe did in the Mondo Cowl Pattern.  Fancy that!
The Madelinetosh Prairie is spun from 100% superwash merino, and there is 840 yards on each skein it costs $27.50 per skein. The skein pictured above is a colour called Cosmos.
