About

Welcome!

The Knit Cafe is a bricks and mortar yarn shop that opened on October 8th 2004 in Toronto, Ontario Canada.  Home to beautiful yarns from all over the world.  We can’t keep our hands off the hand dyes, nor the natural fibres.  We are inspired by decadent textures and bright and sumptuous colours. We love yarn! So much so we are compelled to compose knitting patterns that take advantage of all of our yarns best qualities. We sell the patterns at the store and onlinetoo!
We also love teaching and sharing the love of crafting! We host lots of classes here at the cafe and are always available to trouble shoot knit-trials, large and small.

It is here on the Knit Café Blog that we endeavor to record all of the goings on.  It is hard to keep up! What – with the knitting, and crocheting, and crafting, and the pattern making, and the  knitting events, and knit-art shows, and other pieces of knit news – there is a lot to account for!  This is where you will find out all about it.  We hope you will visit often and let us know all your knit news too.

  1. can you move to Nashville? That would be awesome, thanks. 🙂

  2. Hello, I am looking for 4 skeins, 175 yards, 50g, 4 ounces of varigated fingering weight yarn in 4 colors to make the linen stich scarf you can see at kyarns.com I fell in love with the scarf to make for gifts since we have 7 girls and 6 granddaughters. The only problem is the yarn suggested is to expensive for my budget. I saw your Fleece Artist Peter Rabbit yarn on sale and it looks like the colors are vibrant which is what I need, can you tell me if this yarn is fingering weight? Also if so, how many yards is one skein? Thank you! MSteele

    • Hello,
We have a lot of fingering weight yarn. Peter Rabbit is I’m afraid, not one of them, nor is it one sale. I think you were looking at sale inventory from a much older post. The only 50gram version is Koigu kpppm which has 175yds for $13. The rest are 100gram skeins 380-425yds priced between $14.50 and $29 in brands Elitespun, Handmaiden, Madelinetosh, IndigoDragonfly, Noro, and Lorna’s Laces.

  3. I am trying to figure out on your site if you have madeline tosh DK weight in Mica… i will drive in if you do have it Sarah

Hello there, I’m sorry we don’t have much of what you ask for.
In Anzula, Better or Worsted we do have Country Green, but not the others we do have Aspen and Teal and one skein left of Mauve. Check back with us come Oct/Nov for new stock.
In Cascade 220, we don’t have any of the colours you mentioned but in the 220 Superwash we do have navy #854,and natural #817, and white #871, and lots of other colours in 220, and superwash 220.
Hope that helps. Good luck with your search.
      Kristin

  7. Nice to see a yarn store on Roncesvalles once again. I grew up over there, on Galley, and used to walk with my mother to a little shop just north of Howard Park. I think it was called “Jenning’s Wool Shop”, and my mother always referred to it as “Mrs. Jennings'”. That’s where she’d get her Kroy sock yarn, Astra for kid’s sweaters, and Chieftain for the really special projects. That was back in the mid 1960s. I’m over in the Beaches now, a long way from you, but I hope you are doing well!
